Compressible Boundary Layer Predictions at High Reynolds Number using Hybrid LES/RANS Methods

چکیده
Simulations of compressible boundary layer flow at three different Reynolds numbers (Reδ = 5.59×10, 1.78×10, and 1.58×10) are performed using a hybrid large-eddy/Reynoldsaveraged Navier-Stokes method. Variations in the recycling/rescaling method, the higherorder extension, the choice of primitive variables, the RANS/LES transition parameters, and the mesh resolution are considered in order to assess the model. The results indicate that the present model can provide good predictions of the mean flow properties and second-moment statistics of the boundary layers considered. Normalized Reynolds stresses in the outer layer are found to be independent of Reynolds number, similar to incompressible turbulent boundary layers.

Simulating Flow over Periodic Hills Using a Dual-Mesh Hybrid Solver with High-Order LES
In this work, we present a hybrid solver coupling a high-order LES solver with Cartesian mesh and a RANS solver with body-fitting mesh. This hybrid solver is developed within a dual-mesh consistent hybrid framework, where LES and RANS simulations for the same flow are conducted simultaneously on different computational domains and different meshes. In the LES, an immersed boundary method with r...
متن کاملA unified RANS-LES model: Computational development, accuracy and cost
5 Large eddy simulation (LES) is computationally extremely expensive for the investigation of wall-bounded turbulent flows at high Reynolds numbers. A way to reduce the computational cost of LES by orders of magnitude is to combine LES equations with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations used in the near-wall region. A large variety of such hybrid RANS-LES methods are currently in us...
متن کاملDes, Hybrid Rans/les and Pans Models for Unsteady Separated Turbulent Flow Simulations
This paper presents computational results for two DES (Detached Eddy Simulation), one hybrid RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes)/ LES (Large Eddy Simulation) and some preliminary results from PANS (Partially Averaged Navier-Stokes) turbulence for simulation of unsteady separated turbulent flows. The models are implemented in a full 3-D Navier Stokes solver and are based on the twoequation k-...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation of the Separated Flow over a Smoothly Contoured Ramp
Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Reynoldsaveraged Navier-Stokes (RANS) calculations have been used to predict the development, separation, reattachment and downstream recovery of the flow over a smoothly contoured ramp. The statistically two-dimensional upstream flow separates along the ramp surface and then reattaches downstream on a flat section. A canonical flatplate turbulent boundary layer ...
متن کاملA Hybrid RANS-Implicit LES Approach for the High-Order FR/CPR Method
High-order methods have demonstrated their potential in large eddy simulations (LES) of turbulent flows with relatively low Reynolds numbers. The cost becomes a serious limiting factor for high Reynolds number problems. A promising approach to reduce the cost of these simulations is the hybrid Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS)/LES approach. In this paper, a new hybrid RANS-Implicit LES (IL...
